JEROME A. POLLOS/Press..Bill McKee, 84, wades through the pile of leaves he built while raking under his horse chestnut tree on Thursday. "The first winter we had chestnuts I got all excited," said the 35-year resident at 5th Street and Reid Avenue. "I thought, 'Hot dog! We gonna have chestnuts.' So I threw them in the oven before dinner and a while later it sounded like firecrackers were going off in the oven. We forgot to split 'em."
